This year on May 9th (Saturday), the 23rd of the third lunar month, the whole city will celebrate the birthday of Tin Hau! Tung Wah Group of Hospitals is once again hosting the 'Yau Ma Tei Tin Hau Festival' at the Yau Ma Tei Tin Hau Temple. You are cordially invited to join us in this festive celebration, where you can immerse yourself in the most authentic traditional festival atmosphere with the fragrant incense, the deafening drums and gongs, and offer blessings for national peace and prosperity, good weather, and good health for yourself and your family.
The day will be packed with exciting programs, and here are some highlights you won't want to miss:
'Ceremony of Respectfully Sealing with Auspicious Signs' — seeking blessings for prosperity, with a strong sense of ritual
'Ceremony of Rushing to the Deity with Flower Fireworks' — a breathtaking and moving scene as the rushers carry the gigantic flower fireworks, made of bamboo and colored paper with gorgeous decorations, straight towards the Tin Hau Temple, representing the highest respect in folk art
Star Performances
This year, we are honored to invite the 'Temple Street Song King' Wan Kwong and the 'Children's Song Queen' Li Chi-hing (Purple Sister), two legendary performers, to grace us with their presence. Get ready for a non-stop string of hits that will keep you entertained throughout the day!
The outdoor garden next to the temple will be transformed into a traditional cultural market, offering fun activities, delicious food, and wonderful performances:
Craft booths: Chinese calligraphy, sugar art, Chinese lacquer fans, scented bags, and silhouette cutting
Exciting performances: Face changing, Cantonese opera, Chinese martial arts, contortion, and lion dance — a vibrant celebration with resounding drums and gongs!
If you wish to delve deeper into the history, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals has arranged free guided tours of the Yau Ma Tei Tin Hau Temple.
